1.     The ideal Society refers to the community in which one lives. Sigma Beta Rho fosters the belief that individuals have a responsibility to the society to which they belong. It is one’s duty as a brother to give back to one’s family, community, and fraternity that which an individual has to offer to the ideal of service.

As one of our founding pillars, our duty to our Society is deeply embedded in our values. At the University of Buffalo, we have been well known to give back to the society which harbors us. Year after year, our brothers commit to endless hours of community service, both locally and on a national level.

We have worked with the following organizations and events to serve our community:

Multiple Sclerosis Walk - The National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation organizes a walk every year to help raise funds for MS research. The Buffalo Brothers helped raise money for this charitable event and spend their entire day volunteering at the walk.

The Buffalo City Mission – Every now and then the Buffalo Brothers dedicate their time to various organizations in the Buffalo area. One of the organizations that we volunteer at is the Buffalo City Mission where we help out mainly in the soup kitchen by setting up, serving, and cleaning up. Helping out at places like is reinforces our principal of giving back to the community.

National Breast Cancer Walk – An event organized by the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help raise money for breast cancer research. Brothers helped raise money and volunteer as guides for the walkers at the day of the event.

Volunteering In Downtown Buffalo Soup Kitchens - The brothers spent the better part of the day serving the senior citizens of the Buffalo Community. We look forward to doing this again as those we served were extremely grateful for our involvement in this event.

Annual Linda Yalem Walk - Every Fall semester the University at Buffalo along with other sponsors organize an annual walk in the memory of ex-student, Linda Yalem whom was killed while jogging along the university campus. The Buffalo Brothers volunteer at the walk every Fall to make it a success for all those involved in remembering this wonderful woman.

Juvenile Diabetes- Many sponsors help organize this event and it is always a big success because many families with children come to show their support. This year the Buffalo Brothers helped out by setting up for the event and cooked hot dogs for the thousands of participants.

Buffalo News Kids Day - This is a special event sponsored by the Buffalo News. All of the newspaper sales from that day go towards funding research at Children & Women Hospitals. The Brothers rise and shine at 6:00AM to sell newspaper at designated areas to motorist driving by. It has been a very successful event by raising thousands of dollars every year.

National Gandhi Day - This is a national event that takes place every year in honor of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji is famous for his protests against the British by ways of non-violence. On National Gandhi Day, we honored him by doing community service at yet another soup kitchen. As we are a multicultural organization, we are in the midst of planning a few more community service events honoring advocates of peace from various nationalities.

• India Day Parade - During the summer the annual India Day parade takes place in New York City. Thousands show up from all over the country for this cultural event The Honorable Brothers of Sigma Beta Rho are very proud and honored to have the ONLY Greek affiliated float at such a big event as well as hosting the official after party.
